Closed Rhinoplasty in Beverly Hills
Rhinoplasty, also popularly called a nose job, is a surgical procedure used to enhance the appearance and functionality of the nose. It is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures being performed today.
This procedure is primarily used to correct aesthetic issues like nostrils that are too wide or too narrow, a nasal hump, and a drooping nasal tip. It is also used to repair birth defects and to improve structural problems that lead to functional issues like impaired breathing.
Am I a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?
Dr. Kanodia will be happy to advise you on your candidacy for rhinoplasty. The decision will be based on many factors, including your medical history, age, lifestyle, and skin condition.
Overall, if you are a physically healthy adult whose facial features have finished growing and maturing, you may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty. You should be a non-smoker and have realistic expectations regarding the results of the surgery.
The Initial Consultation
The first step is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Kanodia. At the initial visit, he will discuss your expectations while reviewing your past and current medical history, along with any medications you are currently taking and any allergies you may have. Measurements and photos may be taken at this time to help with before-and-after comparisons.
The Closed Rhinoplasty Procedure
Before your rhinoplasty procedure, Dr. Kanodia will advise you to stop smoking and to cease taking certain medications that could interfere with blood flow during the procedure.
Rhinoplasty is typically performed using general anesthesia. Local anesthesia with IV sedation may be an option depending on the doctor’s preferences and other factors.
Once the anesthesia has taken effect, incisions are made in order to gain access to the underlying tissues of the nose. Dr. Kanodia performs the rhinoplasty procedure using a closed technique. With closed rhinoplasty, the incisions are made inside the nostrils. No incisions are made on the outside of the nose, which is where they would be made in an open technique.
After these incisions are created, Dr. Kanodia reshapes the cartilage, bone, and soft tissue of the nose as needed. After this, he closes the incisions using surgical sutures. Dressing, gauze, or splints may be placed to aid in healing.
Typically, the entire procedure takes around an hour to complete, although depending on the extent of the repairs, it may take longer.
After the Procedure
You will be able to get back to work within two to three weeks of your rhinoplasty surgery. Within a few weeks, the majority of the post-surgical swelling and bruising will subside while the nose gradually takes its new shape and contours. The results are permanent.
Advantages of Closed Rhinoplasty
Closed rhinoplasty has a number of advantages over open rhinoplasty.
No visible post-surgical marks: The main advantage of closed rhinoplasty is that there are no visible marks on the nose after the procedure. Any post-surgical marks will be well-camouflaged within the nostrils.
Shorter procedure: The procedure is shorter than open rhinoplasty. With reduced procedure time, there is also less anesthesia or sedation needed.
Shorter recovery time: Closed rhinoplasty is less invasive compared to open rhinoplasty, so the recovery time is also shorter. There is also only minimal swelling and bruising with a closed rhinoplasty.
Excellent results: Closed rhinoplasty enables Dr. Kanodia to make targeted and precise improvements in the shape of the nose without having to lift or redrape the nasal skin.
